Grasshoppers’ spacious room is divided into different areas where the children are free to move between activities such as sand and water, construction and the home corner. All activities are in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and give lots of opportunities for the children to make their own decisions and choices, thereby encouraging independence. Staff are always close by to help and encourage the children when needed.

In Grasshoppers we always have an interesting project for the children. Staff in the Grasshoppers' room have recently observed the children's interest in fire engines. Many activities and materials have been used by the children to create activities linked to fire engines. A fire engine was built in the role play area, various construction materials have been used to build fire engines and art materials have been used to create fire engine pictures. The children's interest lasted for weeks and developed an interest in other emergency vehicles.

The children enjoy music and movement every day and love to sing and dance.

Outdoor activities are an important part of Grasshoppers' day. Our outdoor play areas and spacious fields give the children safe opportunities to explore their natural environment.  There is plenty for them to enjoy; the slide and sandpit, bikes to ride, trees to hide behind and a tunnel to crawl in and out of.

The children like to access natural materials and often build water chutes with pieces of guttering, pipes and buckets. They enjoy pouring the water down the chutes and finding different ways to track the water through.
