Caterpillars and Butterflies is the pre-school area of the Nursery. Our teacher and nursery staff plan and provide a varied range of opportunities and experiences for the children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The room is divided into areas to ensure activities from all six areas of learning are accessible to the children. The children have the freedom to move around the different activities which allows them to have independence and choice. Staff encourage and help the children to extend their learning. The children have access to a computer and are encouraged to develop their computer skills. Caterpillars and Butterflies make full use of our outdoor area. They recently went out into our meadow ‘on a bear hunt’. Staff read the story to the children out in the field and then the children enjoyed acting out the story with staff. They had great fun! The children have recently developed an interest in baking and have made and decorated lots of biscuits, crispy cakes and have melted chocolate to make their own sweets. Their interest in baking has spread to other activities, for example in the sand, water and play dough areas they use the equipment to rein act their baking fun. We hope that when children leave Caterpillars and Butterflies they are happy, confident and have a positive attitude towards learning. |
