Caterpillars and Butterflies is the pre-school area of the Nursery. Our teacher and nursery staff plan and provide a varied range of opportunities and experiences for the children in line with the Foundation Stage. The room is divided into a series of bays to ensure activities from all six areas of learning are accessible to the children. The children have the freedom to move around the different activities which allows them to have independence and choice. Staff encourage and help the children to extend their learning. Caterpillars and Butterflies make full use of our outdoor area. They recently went out into our meadow ‘on a bear hunt’. Staff read the story to the children out in the field and then the children enjoyed acting out the story with staff. They had great fun! They also enjoyed a project of building their own den from various pieces of wood. The children drew pictures to design the den, were involved in choosing the materials and took part in the building and construction. The best bit was playing in it when it was finally built. The children have access to a computer and are encouraged to develop their computer skills. Staff are currently introducing the new letters and sounds framework as part of the Foundation Stage. We hope that when children leave Caterpillars and Butterflies they are happy, confident and have a positive attitude towards learning. |
